Sara Ferlander

Sodertorn University, Sweden

"I am associate professor and senior lecturer in sociology. Since 2002 I have been working at Södertörn University. My teaching is mainly focused on research methods, qualitative and quantitative, and supervision of dissertations at various levels. I am also responsible for the master course ""Health and Social Change"".

As a researcher, I am part of two different research centres at the School of Social Sciences: REINVENT - Södertörn Centre for Research on Societal Development in Suburban Landscapes and SCOHOST - Stockholm Centre for Health and Social Change (www.sh.se/scohost). In terms of external networks, I am, for instance, a member of the #UrbanGirlsMovement research network at the think-tank Global Challenge. I am also a board member of the European Sociological Association (ESA) on Sociology of Health & Illness.

My research concerns the relationship between different forms of social relations and health, both physical and mental. This research has primarily been conducted in Eastern Europe. Currently, I am involved in the research project ""Reinventing the Suburb in Fragmented Landscapes"" where I study how social capital and wellbeing can be built into suburban areas of Stockholm. My earlier research focused on the social aspects of the Internet in urban areas. In 2003, I received my PhD from the University of Stirling in Scotland with the doctoral thesis The Internet, Social Capital and Local Community. I have published articles in scientific journals such as ACTA Sociologica, Social Science & Medicine and Sotsiologicheskie Issledovaniya.   "
