Mick Welling

Mick Welling

Leiden University Medical Center, Netherlands

After his graduation at the HLO Van Leeuwenhoek Institute Delft in 1984 as B.Sc. (Life sciences), Dr. Welling worked as a research technician for 13 years at the Gaubius Institute-TNO and the Nuclear Medicine Department of the LUMC (head prof. Dr. EKJ Pauwels). In this context he worked on the development of molecular imaging tracers for imaging vascular diseases and bacterial infections. In 1997 he obtained his Ph.D. degree at the University of Leiden and continued his research as a PI in infection imaging at the Radiology department of the LUMC. In 2009 he moved to the LUMC neuro-imaging group (head prof. Dr. M van Buchem) where he developed and validated tracers for imaging neuro-inflammatory diseases. To fulfil his interest in the validation of specific tracers and multimodality imaging, in 2012 he joined the Interventional Molecular Imaging Laboratory of the LUMC (head Dr. FWB van Leeuwen), where he dedicates his efforts in the testing and validating of tracers for the imaging of bacterial infections and tumors with dedicated tracers
