Dr. M. Kamaruzzaman

Nanjing Agricultural University, China

Dr. M. Kamaruzzaman conducts research mainly concerning on biological control of plant diseases caused by fungi and bacteria and on molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis and biocontrol.

The research activities in which she is involved is focused on the molecular and biochemical characterization of important pathogenic fungi and antagonists and on the extraction and characterization of metabolites involved in the pathogenesis and biocontrol. He also carries out research on the mechanisms of interaction between virus-fungi. Through in vitro and in vivo assays, he devotes part of her research on the evaluation of the role of beneficial microorganisms like Trichoderma and of natural compounds, to produce positive effects for plants, in terms of growth promotion, induction of pathogen resistance and tolerance to both biotic and abiotic stresses.

He is author of articles published on scientific journals, reviews, abstracts and proceedings of national and international congresses, reviewer of various international journals and he collaborates with companies involved in the development and commercialization of biopesticides, and that develop methods to remediate contaminated soil and water by using microorganism.

Research interests:

•   Conduct research on genomic characterization of new mycovirus.

•   Biochemical and molecular characterization of important pathogenic fungi and antagonists

•   Extraction and characterization of bioactive molecules from beneficial microbes.

•   Use of beneficial microorganisms and their metabolites in biological products and in the interaction plant/antagonist/pathogen.

•   Evaluation of the role of microorganisms or bioactive molecules in promoting plant growth, induction of pathogen resistance and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses

Research activities have included the use of various scientific tools: Fungal cultures, Bio-control agents, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, Real Time q-PCR, RNA-seq, Sequencing, Molecular markers, HPLC, Extraction of antioxidant, Metabolite analysis, Extraction of proteins from plant tissues, Electrophoresis on agarose and polyacrylamide gels, Fungal growth, inhibition assays (in vitro and in vivo).

He had also taken part in numerous activities in the open field. Excellent skills of reading, writing and speaking the English language.
